the cause of poverty is not lack

The poverty comes from fear and the small thinking.

We have to do stock-taking today.
It will take long hours.

1/f fluctuation

It is the harmonized state of regularity and irregularity.
I don't understand it completely.
It is the sound of healing.

Like the music of Mozart.
Like the voice of Neil Tennant, Pet Shop Boys.

The Winter Olympics ended.
Japan got only one medal.
But it is gold.

Many athletes did a good job.
They were close to the medal.
Maybe next time.
I hope to see them in Vancouver.

aiming for new personal best

"personal best", I found these words at figure skating in Torino Olympic Games.

They judge the performance by technical elements and program components.

I want to improve my work performance by using these words.

Shizuka's road to gold medal

I watched a documentary on Arakawa Shizuka.

After new judging system was applied, she couldn't get a high score.
So she practiced high level technics.

She didn't want to spoil her beautiful performance by using difficult technics.
She suffered a lot.

At the Olympic she harmonized the beautiful performance and level 4 technics.
That led her to the gold medal.

Arakawa sparkles, Cohen stumbles

Arakawa Shizuka is the first Asian woman who gets the gold medal in figure skating in Winter Olympic Games.

She looked very confident from the beginning.
The performance was dynamic and beautiful.
The spectators gave standing ovation after she performed ina bauer, which was excellent.

"Cohen falls twice, finds silver lining."
This is an interesting headline.

Even Irina Slutskaya couldn't get over the pressure.

Every Japanese must be very proud of Arakawa.

who has the edge?

A new ice princess will be crowned in Torino Thursday night.
In Japan time it's early in the morning.
I'm going to get up at 5 am tomorrow.

Yahoo sports says Arakawa Shizuka is a dark horse contender.
Her performance is beautiful.
Watch for the ina bauer, a move where she arches her back deeply while gliding across the ice.

to live is to eat

I make it a rule to eat protein (like meat, fish, egg ) and rice and vegetables at lunch and dinner.
At breakfast I eat fruits and drink milk.
Then my nutrition condition is perfect.

But what's so interesting about this?
I need to have some fun when eating.

I have a foster child in Peru.
I want to support people in need.

intellectually disabled people

I wonder what is like to be intellectually disabled.
Do they feel sad about being less intelligent than others?

One of the patients coming to our pharmacy is one of them.
She understands what I say.
She smiles.
She looks like an innocent child.

Are they really innocent or just pretending?

make others happy

The taxi driver is in bad temper.
He says a customer is just a baggage.

The customer doesn't get angry at all and says " This old baggage is fragile, so please handle with care."

The driver starts to open his mind and tells the customer the story of his life.

When the customer gets off the taxi, he says to the customer "Have a nice day!"

It's a good story.
The person is warm-hearted and broad-minded.

work ethic

A patient with cold was prescribed suppositories for fever.
He asked me if he could get powder medicine instead of suppositories.

I said it was impossible.
Because I wanted to catch the last bus.

If I had had time, I would have called the doctor and asked to change the prescription.

No, I should have done it even if I didn't have time.
Patients come first.
That's what I should always keep in mind.

I feel so bad about this now.

I think it's no serious problem.
My life is full of stress.

plain English

I want to know how to write, speak and think more effectively.

1. prefer the short word to the long.
2. prefer the familiar word to the fancy.
3. prefer the specific word to the abstract.
4. use no more words than necessary to make your meaning clear.
5. use the active voice whenever possible.
6. use verbs. put verbs in action.
7. when possible, express even a negative in positive form.
8. put one piece of information in one sentence.
9. put outline first and then details( or specifics).
10. state both cause and effect,

Harada disqualified from normal hill ski jumping

I can't write well by myself recently, so I quote from a news website.

Japanese ski jumper Masahiko Harada was disqualified Saturday from the normal hill competition for having skis that were too long for his weight.

Harada said he weighed 200 grams less than he should have. (mainichi daily news)

only 200 grams!
He should have taken just a little water.

passion lives here

about snowboard(half pipe)

It's exciting to watch acrobatic performances.
I don't understand how to judge them.

It seems landing is important.
And you have to grab the board while jumping.
what's so important about it?

Anyway, the athletes are so cool.

Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain

Amélie is kind of a funny girl.
She can't open her mind to others because of her lonely childhood.

Amélie tries to make others happy with her small mischieves.
For example, returning a long-lost childhood treasure to a former occupant of her apartment.

What a wondrful moment!

the torino olympic games stars tonight

The winter Olympic Games starts late at night.
I can't stay up late.

I will watch rebroadcast tomorrow.
I'm off tomorrow because it's National Foundation Day.

February 11th is the National Foundation Day. According to the Japanese historical legend, on this day in the year 660 BC, Emperor Jinmu, the first Emperor of Japan, built his capital in the Yamato district, Nara Prefecture now. This day is celebrated in commemoration of the foundation of the nation. The present Emperor is said to be the 126th from Jinmu Emperor in the direct line.

carrying a baby must be tough

If I have a baby, I have to reduce my belongings when I go out.

I usually have two bags when I go out.
I want to carry my day-planner , other notebooks , books and magazines.

A baby weighs at least 3 kgs.
How can I carry my heavy bags and my baby?

Before having a baby, I need to train my muscle.

there must be something to write about

I was in good condition today.
The hormones are working fine.

But my brain is working slowly.
I'm going to the library tomorrow to look for books on aromatherapy.

princess Kiko is having the third baby

It's a wonderful news.

Princess Kiko, wife of Crown Prince's brother, is going to have another baby.

They say if the baby is a boy, he will be the third position to be the Emperor in the current system.
I hate this opinion.

I think it is all right for a woman to be the Emperor.
The imperial succession system may change in the future.

mixed-blood and bilingual

I have an inferiority complex when I see someone with international background.

It's silly to feel like that.
Why do I tend to think negative sometimes?

aromatherapy advisor seminar

At the seminar there were about 200 people.
Most of them were women.
And many of them want to get a more advanced qualification like aromatherapy instructor or aromatherapist.

I want to be one of them.

singing biology

I bought a book called "singing biology".

A biology professor composed songs on biology to make it easier to memorize.

I will use it for my study.
It's fun and easy to remember.

bean throwing ceremony

Japanese hold bean throwing ceremony on February 3.

They believe this will bring in good fortune and drive away evil spirits.

Hard times,come again no more.

if you have courage to dive into a train

Why don't you have courage to live?

The train was thirty minutes late this morning because of the accident.
Another suicide, I guess.

I meet this kind of accident at least once a month.
Economy in Japan is going up little by little.
But still many people are suffering.

The situation is tough.
But we definitely want to raise a real family.

I wish I could travel abroad.
