letter from Newsweek

I got a letter form Newsweek.
They offer some discount on subscribing the magazine.

I used to read Newsweek more than ten years ago.
They still remember me.

The magazine is worth reading.
But before I finish reading, the new issue arrives.

There are lot of books to read in my bookshelf.
I want to learn speed reading.

anger management

When you are angry with somebody,
it may be you who caused the anger.

The ugliness in others may be yours.
you get upset because you see your weak points in others.

You should be humble.
Learn by other's bad behavior.

we share the same biology

I found out I have very poor knowledge of biology.
It's a must subject to become aromatherapy instructor.

When did I lose track of it?
In high school. I'm sure of it.
I should have studied more.

In the bookstore there are lots of books of biology for high school students.
I will start from scratch.

the gift of numbers

the mathematical fromula the professor loved

When I was in the first grade at elementary school, arithmetics was fun.
But as I went up to higer grade, it was no more fun.

At the movie the old professor's memory lasts only for eighty minutes.
The young single mother works for him to do his care.

He loves mathematics so much.
And the woman and her son make friends with him.

Mathematics is difficult but mathematical formulas are beautiful.
The professor says what is important can not be seen.
The phrase is like "Little Prince".

The original story will be translated in English.
I want to read it.

Aroma Environment Association of Japan

I've become the member of AEAJ.

I have to attend the seminar they are holding in February to become aromatherapy advisor.
After getting the license, I can take the aromatherapy instructor exam.

The exam is in March. It seems difficult to pass the test.
But I have some knowledge of pharmacy and medicine.
I hope the knowledge will help.

horiemon arrested

Following hours of questioning, prosecutors Monday night arrested Takafumi Horie, the Internet entrepreneur considered the new face of corporate Japan, in connection with dubious stock deals in his business group. (asahi.com)

I don't want to believe it.
I have 50 shares of livedoor stock.
It's OK to lose my money.
I'm really sorry for Horiemon.

bringing up future pharmacists

I attended the seminar to study how to teach pharmacy students.
They need pharmacy practice for two weeks both in a hospital and a community pharmacy.

Pharmacy education has required four years in Japan.
But from this April it requires six years like US and other countries.
It's necessary to be a good pharmacist.

When the students with new educational system become 5th grade, they go to pharmcy practice for two and a half months both in a hospital and a community pharmacy.
So the old pharmacists will be very busy to teach them.

Lots of universities are making pharmaceutical department recently.
In the future there will be too many pharmacists and less job.

Old pharmacist must keep up the good job.

babies in middle age

Holly Hunter has given birth to twins at the age of 47.

At the age of 47.
I'm really glad to hear that.

I still hope to have babies even though I'm getting older.
The news encouraged me.

I will work hard and make money.
In the future I will have my children.

human relationship in workplace

There is a person whom I don't like at my workplace.
His work performance is too bad.
He doesn't memorize the place of medicine.
He is slow to understand everything.

I feel miserable myself when I see him at a loss.
How can I teach him?

He irritates me.
Am I such a small-minded person?
I want to find a breakthrough.

livedoor shock

the share price of livedoor is falling down.
horiemon is in crisis.

I like his agressive style of business.
I don't want to believe he did something illegal.

where is the truth?

Japanese stocks bounced back with a vengeance on Thursday after two days of heavy selling that followed Monday evening’s raid by government prosecutors on internet company Livedoor.

Shares in Livedoor, the internet services company at the centre of the stock market crisis, were still untraded by the end of the day with sell orders at Y416, down 40.2 per cent on Monday’s close.

time can do so much

You feel one year goes by quicker and quicker as you get older.
I didn't know there is a law which explains this phenomenon.

The law is called Janet's law.
One year for six-year -old kid means one-sixth of his life.
One year for sixty -year -old adult means one -sixtieth of his life.

Two months for six-year-old mean one year for sixty-year-old.

When you are a kid, everything is new and you feel time goes by slowly.
As you get grow older there is less and less new experience.
You don't have a surprise everyday.
So time goes by so quickly.

If you try to find brand-new things and keep curiosity, you may feel time goes by slowly like kids.

after eleven years

Eleven years have passed since the Great Hanshin Earthquake occured.
It was the biggest natural disaster after the World War II.
More than 6,000 people died.
The city of Kobe was seriously destroyed.

We were hopeless at the time.
But we have overcome.

We will never forget the tragedy.
We can't prevent natural disasters but we should always get ready to cope with them.

About 100 people died from heavy snow this winter.
The nature is sometimes cruel.
We have to be very careful.

north country

The movie is called "stand up" in Japan.
I think the phrase best describes the movie.

A woman suffers from sexual harassment by her co-workers in a mine company.
She doesn't want to lose her job to support herself and her children.
She stands up for her right and she wins.

Before winning the case she has to face the fact that her female co-workers don't want to cooperate with her.
They are scared the harassment may get worse. They just want to be patient.

I was so sorry to see that women can't get together.
But as the story goes on they get the energy to stand up.

another vist to a shrine

Old people in Japan like to go to shrines.
Especially it's the beginning of the year.

What do they pray at a shrine?
Good health? Peace in family?

Shrines are related to happy occasions.
Temples are related to death.

Most Japanese are born in Shinto and die in Buddhism.

karaoke singer

When I go to karaoke and sing my favorite songs, I feel disappointed.
I find myself I'm not a good singer as I expected.

When I sing along with CDs, my song sounds good.
How can I be a good karaoke singer?
How can I practice?

small talk

I'm not good at small talk.

When I am at work I can talk a lot about work with my co-workers.
But at lunch or tea break I'm at a loss.

I want to speak foreign languages.
First of all I should have some topics to talk about in my mother tongue.

I want to study accounting.

cancer treatment in Japan

I saw a special program about cancer on TV.

According to the WHO guideline of cancer, palliative care should start at the early stage of cancer.
In Japan palliative care starts at the final stage.
It means the care is for the dying people.

I think the most important thing in cancer treatment is to relieve the pain.
Not only physically but also spiritually.
By easing the pain, patients will get the courage to fight the cancer.

visit to a shrine

As a typical Japanese,I paid a visit to a shrine.

I don't have any particular religion but visiting a shrine in the beginning of the year seems to be an obligation to me.
The fortune telling paper says I will find a way to solve the problem.

I expect a wonderful year.

amarantine

There was enya on TV this evening
Her music is beautiful and relaxing.

But I guess she was not really singing because the sound was almost like a CD.

That's no problem. She's not a Japanese singer.

The songs were nice.
One was "amarantine".Love lasts forever?
I hope so.

The other song was "sumiregusa".
It's written in Japanese.

The lyrics were a little bit funny but simple and pure.

I think her music can be used for music therapy like Mozart.

on my birthday

I make it a rule to write a letter to myself ten years older.
It is exciting to read a letter from myself ten years younger.

I think I keep progressing.
The birthday is time to think about your past and future.

aging is fun

Tomorrow is my birthday.
I don't care how old I am.
Age is nothing but a number.

As long as you look young, stay healthy and think positive, age doesn't matter.

dog year

I used to have a dog when I was small.
Dogs grow old much faster than humans.
They live a short life and die.

I was so sad when my dog died and I regretted I hadn't taken good care of him.

Now that I'm grown up, I feel time goes by so quickly.
It's just like a dog year.

As I grow older, I feel like I'm turning into a dog.

open for emergency

Today is the first day of the work this year.
The hospital near my pharmacy is open for patients who need medical treatment.

We expected many flu patients.
But there were not to many.
I left the pharmacy around 5 pm.
Two pharmacists and three assistants are still working.

another life begins today

I feel so refreshed at the beginning of the year.
I wish I would not lose this feeling.

The new year's resolution.
I don't want to think about it too seriously.
I want to make it simple.

to stay healthy.
to think positive.

That's too fuzzy?

The specific goals.
to get the license of aromatherapy instructor.
to study accounting.
to keep writing the blog in English,Spanish and German.

There are two big sports events this year.
The Torino Winter Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.
I'm really looking forward to them.
