What happened to my reading ability?

I took an English exam to check my English ability.
Since I don't read English books recently, my reading speed got slow?
And I need more vocabulary.
I had to write an essay on world hunger.
Even in my mother tongue I can't write the essay.
The topic is too big for me.

There's no end of studying foreign languages.
